Further information: Tribunal summing up: 'It is accepted medical evidence that coronary thrombosis is constitutional and not precipitated by heavy physical exertion'. Appeal letter afterwards requests a Section 40 review, as Cottam stated he had been referring to an earlier accident when he had suffered three broken ribs, in discussion with the Tribunal. Examples of Commissioners' decisions relating to similar cases attached. From consultant surgeon's letter 31 October 1956: 'You have here a very difficult case. […] in a good few of these cases, coronary thromboses do follow on and are attributable to injury'.
