Further information: Former address: 27 Brickyard Lane, Kilburn. Accidents in March 1952 and June 1952 injured both legs. Numerous handwritten letters, some written on the inside of envelopes, including many grievances about medical treatment, compensation and associated matters. In June 1953 Mr Kitts NUM Compensation Agent wrote to the Denby NUM Branch offical, Hetherington, stating: 'no amount of explaining will satisfy him. [...]when the Tribunal gave its decision [...] he was rather abusive and knew all the answers'. In another lettter: 'a rather difficult man to deal with and because of his deafness it makes matters more difficult'. Hawkins wrote 28 July 1953: ;'I have never had trouble with my legs since I started work at 14 years of age'. A letter to Hawkins from Kitts on 31 December 1953 thanks him for the 'smokes'. In letter to Hawkins from Kitts 14 July 1956: 'I have received a paraphernalia of papers from you and I am moderately educated but I do not understand double Dutch'.
