Further information: Papers from an earlier Medical Appeal tribunal relating to the same accident included. After surgery for the hernia there were complications and Johnson lost the use of an arm, initially diagnosed either as active rheumatoid infection or as Acute infective neuritis and finally given as brachial radiculitis. The NUM won an increased assessment (from 20 per cent for 3 months) to 50 per cent for 2 years.
