Description of accident: Getting a train of materials down, turned round and hit head on girder.
Further information: Accident of 25 April 1952 when Kominek was hit by a sylvester chain caused a back injury and notes about a related medical appeal are included. From medical report 2 October 1953: 'Difficulty in obtaining history owing to language difficulty. Very hysterical'. After his second accident Kominek was admitted to the Pastures Hospital and the hospital is given as his address thereafter. The diagnosis was given as 'Mental disorder affected by injury to head' and the notes include: 'Not allowed to shave since he is on the suicidal caution list [...] Admits to auditory hallucinations and to suicidal tendencies.[...] Sometimes requires tube feeding'. In June 1954 psychiatric report: 'it appears that this particular accident [...] did at least precipitate the psychosis [...] The outlook is poor'. Report of July 1954 states: 'confined to bed[...] with suicidal tendencies [...] remains impassive and mute'. This appeal was against a 10 per cent assessment. |
