Description of accident: Roofing fall left claimant suspended for 5 minutes with his hands crushed, resulting in a fracture of his right hand
Further information: Pre-existing rheumatoid arthritis. Medical Board January 1950 stated no loss of faculty from the accident. GP letter March 1950 states ' This man is quite incapable of any work'. NUM Branch secretary wrote: 'I have known Ince for a number of years and have found him to be a good, capable, honest worker and one whom attended his work regularly.' Handwritten letter from Ince describes how accident occurred in great detail, also medical treatment and claim process initiation, concluding 'I have been 42 years at the Coal Face and never had an illness'. Tribunal summary: 'We consider that had there been no accident his arthritis would still have been severe.'
