Further information: After orchidectomy for seminoma Painter wrote: 'my Private kept getting bigger until I have had to come into the hospital and have it taken out'. A nil assessment was made for this and the Ripley Branch NUM secretary, Nicklin, wrote to the Area Compensation Agent Joseph Kitts stating : 'this was done in the same accident as the shoulder injury'. Kitts replied: 'although we consider it a loss the medical profession do not. [...] Attention could be drawn to this particular point when there is a chance to appeal'. A specialist report from the Derby Radiotherapy centre was obtained in relation to the orchidectomy but this was not definitive: 'It does not seem that there is good evidence of a relationship between the injury and the onset of the tumour'. The appeal successfully raised the assessment from 5 per cent.
