Further information: Hulland claimed benefit in respect of nystagmus from 6 December 1948. He had previously claimed compensation for this disease in 1930. According to a Medical Board report, dated 14 February [year not given] his symptoms and signs were 'dizziness, frightened, easily fatigued. There are no physical signs.' An further Medical Board Report dated 29 April 1949 'is of opinion that this man requires psychiatric investigation.' In Hulland's statement, it states 'Unable to concentrate, mind will not work. Loses time from work due to exhaustion. Has been feeling like this since 1931, worse in past two years. Seems to be losing his senses.' Psychiatric assessment recommended by chairman of medical board. Appeal lost as claimant is not suffering from Miner's Nystagmus. Decision of 23 May 1949 upheld.
