Description | Date of birth: 16/03/1901 Marital status: Not given Address: 46 Redvers Buller Road, Chesterfield Type of injury: Injuries - fractured ulna/radius; insomnia; nervous dyspepsia Description of accident: Smash on underground railway Further information: Hendry was involved in a 'Smash on underground railway' on 3 March 1949 and was in hospital for 10 days. Hospital treatment and rehabilitation ongoing. A GP letter dated 26 September 1949 states: 'Apart from his loss of faculty the effect on his nervous system is very marked. He suffers from insomnia, Nervous Dyspepsia, has become irritable and difficult to live with, is afraid of traffic and crowds and thinks he will never work again. He is certainly a very different person from the hardworking man he was before the accident'. The appeal decision (the date is unclear as the notification is dated 30 September 1949 but a handwritten note underneath states 11 October 1949) decided the extent of disablement to be 50 per cent based on the physical injuries. |
