Report obtained from GP Mary Semple included: 'On November 5th 1949 he was certified fit for light work only […] He […] was given work as an engine-driver […] advised never to attempt heavy work again. [...] Since then his condition has altered little. His work is now a "push-button" job, responsible, but easy, physically. It is much more difficult for him to walk the half-mile to reach his post.[...] He has become somewhat fat. [...] When I first knew Mr Chivers, he was an energetic, restless individual; today he is much altered. HIs movements are slow and he appears always to be in discomfort'. |
