Further information: Orthopaedic specialist's report dated 18 November 1952 included which states 'the patient has now already left the pit and is undertaking suitable employment of a light nature outside the Colliery. […] He should be fit to undertake a moderate degree of manual labour but would not be fit to undertake continual stooping or heavy work such as coal face.' A typed letter of appeal from the claimant dated 15 September states 'I was a top grade man for either Ripping, Heading of face work [...]' Hospital notes included.
