Appears mentally muddled, continually blinking the eyes […] No frank nystagmus present until patient told to undergo movements used in pit with alternate flashing lights, upward movement of the eyes against neck rigidity [...]Patient states "Terrified to go down the pit again now" [...]no miner should work down the pit longer than 30 years'. The miner had been undergoing CNS investigations for 'drop attacks' with periods of incapacity certified as 'depression' and 'diplopia' and a May 1964 medical certificate giving: 'Vertebral Artery insufficiency causing Nystagmus'. |
