Further information: Crate injured his knee while leaving work on 7 May 1949 and attended a rehabilitation course at Berry Hill from July until 7 October 1949. The decision of the Medical Board on 14 October 1949 was 15 per cent extent of disablement for 6 months from 22 October 1949. A handwritten letter (undated) from Crate to the representative 'I think you could speak to them better than me.' He was assessed at 10 per cent for life but on appeal (28 September 1950) was increased to 15 per cent for 9 months.
