Description of accident: Slipped and fell over a broken sleeper whilst carrying boring machine hit at back of head. Unconscious for3- 4 hours.
Further information: Numerous letters written by Ashmore outlining the effects of the injury. It was caused by falling while carrying a boring machine and resulted in him being unconscious for 3-4 hours. The letters also detail his frustration in dealing with the compensation claim and his financial difficulties. Quote from letter dated 7 July 1950: 'These Tribunal Doctors when they see a man with a pair of arms and legs he will do for the pit.' A neurological assessment was carried out stating 'the neurologist thought that the claimant was suffering from a neurosis in which the accident was a factor.'
