Date1957
DescriptionDate of birth:
Marital status: Married
Address: Not given, Not given
Type of benefit claimed: Injury benefit
Type of injury: Tinea Pedis
Further information: First two medical certificates stated 'Dermatitis', third after hospital admission stated 'Tinea Pedis'. Possibility that this was a prescribed industrial disease Epidermophytosis ruled out by hospital doctor. Initially the claim was disallowed because the Insurance Officer stated there had been no accident. Evidence focussed on how often claimant used the pithead baths; NCB stated claimant only used the baths occasionally so may have contracted the disease elsewhere. Claimant submitted: 'I used the pit-head baths regularly from April 1957 to August 2nd 1957. For a period [...] I was on light work on the telephone exchange and did not need to use the baths'. Findings: 'Claimant contracted dermatitis [...] using pit-head baths.' and 'There was an industrial accident in that claimant contracted Tinea Pedis on 12 July 1957'.
