Date1954
DescriptionDate of birth:
Marital status: Not given
Address: 28 Robertsons Avenue, Duckmanton

Further information: This summary is from the Commissioner's decision: Mr Bell had an industrial accident on 30 November 1949, when he was buried under a fall of roof and injured his back and pelvis. He returned to light work on 5 September 1950. His disablement assessment was originally 80 per cent, but reduced to 3 per cent for life on 5 February 1953 when a medical appeal tribunal decided he recovered to this extent. He was paid disablement benefit at the rate of 20s. 0d. per week until 1 June 1954. On 22 April 1954 a medical board found Mr Bell to have 'a condition of general debility resulting from two abdominal operations' which 'rendered him unfit for his ordinary work.' However this condition was not seen as being related to the relevant injury from the accident. On 29 October 1954 the Commissioner found against the claimant on the grounds that his gastric problems were unrelated to the accident injury (C. I. 395/54). There is a substantial amount of paperwork relating to this case (2 files).
