TitleArticles of agreement between 1) John Wathey of Ripley yeoman and Richard Ryley of Ripley yeoman, 2) Thomas Bateman, Robert Stirland, Robert Newton and John Sutton, all of Ripley yeoman. Reciting bargain and sale 10 Jun 1618 by John Zouch, late of Codnor Castle to James Wright, late of Ripley and Robert Wild, late of Codnor, paying £10 to Zouch and £5 19s 6d yearly to the King, of the manor of Ripley, except Butterley Hall and Butterley Park; also reciting deeds dated 20 Apr and 18 May 1620 by Wright to Wild of a moiety of the manor; also reciting indenture dated 15 Nov 1621, consideration £50, of half the premises by Wild to John Wathey, Richard Ryley, father of Richard Ryley a party to this deed, and John Cowper then of Ripley yeoman, since deceased, on behalf of the freeholders of the farms in Ripley called holds or half-holds, who raised the consideration; Salterwood Common was then divided among the freeholders according to the proportion of their lands and enclosed, except 30 acres of land called the Tenthes which were also enclosed to be used for raising the yearly rent of £5 19s 6d. It is agreed that the moiety of the manor is vested in those of the first part as trustees, to let with the consent of the majority of freeholders at a yearly meeting. The trustees are not to give any person authority to get ironstone. Those of the second part may get stone for building or gorse for fuel upon any of the wastes in Ripley, except the ground so inclosed, as formerly, 30 Mar
