Further description of accession of Nov 1982
Documents extracted by the depositors from a packet of deeds relating to No 13 Ash Street, Cotmanhay, Ilkeston. The documents listed below, however, relate to a piece of land on which Nos 8-16 were built. The properties were in the hands of the Beardsley family from 1882 until “recently” (in relation to 1982). Ash Street appears to have been called Bear Lane formerly.

- Undated copy of will of Samuel Skeavington of parish of Ilkeston, framework knitter (1774-1775)
Bequeaths house in Kirk Hallam, house and croft (place not given), house and croft in which Skeavington dwells, money including £100 at Nottingham at Mr Wrights; beneficiaries are daughter Elizabeth Walker of Kirk Hallam, grandchildren William, Ann and Elizabeth Blunstone, Hannah Richardson of Derby; trustees of will are Mrs Newdigate of Nottingham and John Beardsley of Ilkeston, dated 6 Aug 1774, proved 1775.

- Bundle of papers consisting of:
1. Notes of burial entries from Ilkeston registers: Skeavington, Blunstone and Walker (1766-1808)
2. Allotment of common to Mrs Sarah Blunston, 18 Apr 1795
3. Memorandum of Gilbert Walker’s property consisting of Arrow Public House and croft and allotment on the common, all copyhold, with relation to enclosure, 22 Aug [17]96
4. Memorandum of Sarah Bunstone’s property consisting of messuage, garden and croft and allotment on the common, all freehold, with relation to enclosure, 22 Aug [17]96
Both 3 and 4 have later pencilled notes concerning sales of the properties, etc.

- Paper of copies from parish registers relating to Skeavington, Blunston(e) and Walker families (1766-1808)

- Copy of administration (24 Jun 1880) and will of William Truman of Cotmanhay in the parish of Ilkeston, shopkeeper (-Feb 1842)
Not referring in detail to property or possession, except to 24 stocking frames of different gauges; refers to wife Martha; executors are Samuel Gothard of Heanor and James Horridge of Cotmanhay. Followed by copy of affidavit concerning William Truman, formerly of Cotmanhay, parish of Ilkeston, and late of Gilt Hill, parish of Nuthall, Nottinghamshire, farmer and shopkeeper, who died 29 Nov 1871 at Gilt Hill, and whose will was executed 14 Feb 1842, inter alia.

- Particulars and conditions of sale of freehold properties comprising a residence and 3 meadows with 12 cottages at Kimberley, Awsworth and Newthorpe, co. Nottingham and a fully licensed public house called “The Trumpet Inn”, several cottages and closes of meadow at Ilkeston to be auctioned at “The Rutland Arms Hotel”, Ilkeston on 18 Apr 1882. Details of properties, maps. Endorsed that Frederick Beardsley of Ilkeston lace manufacturer purchased lot 7 (2 closes of meadow with frontages to Ash Street with 2 cottages thereon) for £760

- Insurance policy (Nottinghamshire and Midland Fire Insurance Co. Ltd) for 2 private houses and a dwellinghouse and grocer’s sale shop in Ash Street, Ilkeston, insured by William Beardsley of Ash Street lace manufacturer, 25 Jun 1886
