D1765/E/71 - A letter to Francis Goodwin of Mapleton Hall from William Webster Jnr, 10th June 1830. The letter appears to refer to the estate of Richard Acklam Harrison, Customs Collector of London, who died intestate in 1813, leaving a large fortune. The letter makes reference to Richard's father Joseph Harrison, Customs Officer in Boston in the period leading up to the American Revolution. The letter sates that Joseph was "a marked object of indignation to the Amercians" but "by the fidelity of a black servant Elizabeth, life was preserved". Joseph, Eleanor, Richard and Elizabeth all returned to England.
