Administrative HistoryGervase Edward Taylor was born in Matlock in 1894, the son of Gervase and Sarah Taylor of Spout Farm, Tansley. By the time of the 1911 census, Taylor was employed as a "Waggoner" on another farm in Tansley. In Kelly's Directories dating from the 1920s to the 1940s, he is described as a "car proprietor", based in Crich, his mother's place of birth. In Crich, he built up a business over several decades, as a coach and taxi operator, a coal merchant and a petrol supplier. He died in 1973.
