Administrative HistoryAt the time of her death in March 1923, the Gate House had been owned by Miss Emily Elizabeth Arkwright. According to the Derby Daily Telegraph of 2 June 1926, proposals were received to extend the present Cottage Hospital, build a new hospital or adapt more suitable premises (the two options being the Gate House and Waltham House). The majority of the Committee favoured building a new hospital, and a minority favoured purchasing Waltham House. The report also refers to an architect's report showing the cost of adapting the Gate House to be £1250 and Waltham House to be £1470. With the purchase price of Waltham House being just £1000 in contrast to the £3000 for the Gate House, the former was adopted by a vote at the Annual Meeting, and subsequent annual reports indicate that it was the Waltham House scheme that was pursued.

By 1939, the Gate House does appear to be part of the Cottage Hospital, with several female patients and nurses recorded here in the National Register of 1939.
Custodial HistoryThis item was donated to Derbyshire Record Office in January 2020 by the former owner of one of the properties that the building was later divided into.
