| Description | Early entries mixed with, in some cases, recording of family baptisms back to 1669. Church briefs, 1690-1700, 1700-1714. The volume is bound in a 17th century Bagshawe deed: on title page, "Nicholas Bagshawe clerke and school master for want of a better, 1674". The register is in poor condition, with some loose pages, and the register entries are erratically organised. Biographers of the noted engineer James Brindley (1716-1772) state that he was born in Tunstead, Wormhill, in 1716, but this register includes no entries for this year, as there is a gap from 1716 to 1719 inclusive (for transcript, see CD/33). The register does, however, record the baptism of his sister Esther, in March 1720/1. |
