TitleLetter from Thomas, bishop of Coventry and 1628 Lichfield at Eccleshall Castle, to Sir Henry Harpur, bt., at Calwke [Calke], concerning his presentation of Mr Messinger to St Peter's Derby, after the institution of the borough's candidate, stating that the borough of Derby is willing to yield if Harpur will show them his evidences of title; with draft reply from Harpur saying that he prefers to rely on legal process, that he cares nothing for the willingness of the borough "being a multitude wholly ruled by their Recorder and Townclarke" and will seek public satisfaction, but that to save Messinger further expense he has asked his wife's son in law, Mr Dixie, whose inheritance is involved to lend the evidences of title for production to the bishop only, 3 Oct
