Title
My Patent of Newarke': Gift by William Cowper to Sir John Markham, in consideration of an unspecified sum, of all the house and site of the late priory of St Augustine in Newark (Nottinghamshire) with the land known as Churche Yarde (1 rood) and all buildings, barns etc within the precincts of the said abbey - all his pasture in Newark, to the east of the priory - his land called the Hopyarde (1/2 acre) to the north of the church - a garden and 2 orchards (1acre) within the walls of the priory - a garden (1 rood) to the west of the capital messuage of the priory - which he had of the gift of Richard Andrewys and Nicholas Temphill, dec'd - and of a close (6 acres) at Newark, lying between the highway to the wast and the priory wall - to be held of the King for 1/100 knight's fee and 2s a year - appointment of Thomas of seisin. 10 Mar, 37 Hy VIII [1545/6]
