The Strutt Library
Date

Description
Books, prints and pamphlets
Derbyshire Record Office staff have verified the current location of each volume but not the accuracy of the catalogue itself. Where a book's current location is unknown, the online catalogue entry begins "Missing as at 2017" (some items such as trade directories are likely to have been transferred to the Derbyshire Local Studies stock for the convenience of researchers). The original catalogue is also available to download as a series of four pdf files from here, and on index cards in the Derbyshire Record Office searchroom.

Administrative History
This collection is the library of Hon. Frederick Strutt (1843-1909). Strutt spent decades collecting books of local and national interest, and bequeathed his library to Derbyshire County Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.
Arrangement
The catalogue describing the collection is based on the original typescript version, which uses a system of references corresponding to the shelves on which books were stored before the library was transferred - however, the presence of books dating from after Frederick Strutt's death shows that the library has been augmented over the years.
The smaller Cockburn and Sheldon library collections are catalogued alongside the Strutt library.
