Administrative HistoryThe Act of 9 Anne c 27 (1710) directed that, for the better preservation of game, a lord of the manor might not appoint more than one gamekeeper to kill game and must enter his name with the Clerk of the Peace. This made perpetual and amended the Act of 5 Anne c 14 (1706) which had made no provision for registration. Acts of 24 Geo III c 43 (1784) and 25 Geo IV c 50 (1785) required all who kept dogs, guns, etc for taking game to register with the Clerk of the Peace and take out a certificate annually.
