Administrative History | The first sinking for Ripley Collery took place in 1854. It worked the Deep Hard, Deep Soft, Piper, Low Main, Threequarters and Silkstone coal seams. The colliery passed into the control of the National Coal Board following the nationalisation of the coal industry in 1947. The NCB soon closed it a year later, but any workings still useable merged with Denby Hall Colliery in 1949. |
