History
Mansfield and District Traction Company (MDTC) was founded in 1901 and became part of the Midland General Group in the 1920s. East Midlands Motor Services Ltd (EMMS) began life in 1920, known as W T Underwood Ltd until 1927. Originally based in Clowne, EMMS moved headquarters to Worksop in 1927 and Chesterfield in 1930. Both EMMS and MDTC became part of the state-owned National Bus Company as a result of the Transport Act 1968; the assets of MDTC were transferred to EMMS in 1976. Deregulation of buses began in 1986, and EMMS was acquired by Stagecoarch East Midlands in 1989.
