History
When the National Health Service was established in 1948, hospital services in Derbyshire (except that part included in the Manchester Regional Hospital Area) came under the auspices of the Sheffield Regional Hospital Board. There were initially five Hospital Management Committees in Derbyshire below the Sheffield Regional Hospital Board of which Chesterfield was one.
The hospitals in this group were Chesterfield Royal, Scarsdale, Penmore, Ashgate Annexe, Morton Infectious Diseases, Ashgate Maternity Home, Whittington Hall, Walton and Ashgate Rehabilitation Centre.
Hospital Management Committees were disbanded in 1974.
