History
The sinking of the colliery at Shireoaks near Worksop in Nottinghamshire was started in 1856, the company being formed in 1859. It owned other collieries comprising Steetley, also in Shireoaks, where a shaft was sunk in 1873, Southgate at Clowne, and Whitwell, where the first shaft was sunk in 1890. The company and its collieries were sold to the United Steel Companies in 1945.
