History
The company was established in 1894 with Arnold Lupton as Managing Director. It was given its Certificate of Incorporation as Shirebrook Colliery Limited a year later. Lupton left the company following a 17 week wage dispute in 1898. The anger of miners, who were striking because of poor working conditions and low wages, was made worse when miners from Glasgow and Wales were brought in to replace the striking miners. Eventually they were sent home. The company only ever owned Shirebrook Colliery
In 1947 Shirebrook Colliery was transferred to the control of the National Coal Board as a result of the nationalisation of teh coal industry.
