Administrative HistorySt Alkmund is one of the five ancient parishes in Derby. This was one of the churches granted to Darley Abbey. After the dissolution, Queen Mary granted it to the corporation of Derby. In the nineteenth century, further parishes were created out of St Alkmund: St Anne in 1873, St John (in part) in 1828; other chapelries were Quarndon to 1754, Little Eaton to 1862 and Darley Abbey to 1819.
