Title
Nedasadat Seyedkhatami - NLL Derby OH Interview - Full Audio
Date
16 Jul 2025
Description
Biographical History:
Nedasadat Seyedkhatami was born in Tehran, Iran in October 1989. She holds a postgraduate degree in civil engineering and previously worked as a teaching assistant. She relocated to the United Kingdom with her husband three years prior to the interview, seeking improved living conditions due to societal challenges in Iran. At the time of recording, she resided in Derby and identified as a housewife and mother to an 11-month-old son.
Scope and Content:
The interview explores Neda’s personal history, migration experience, and reflections on motherhood. She discusses her childhood in Tehran, the loss of her father at age seven, and the influence of her mother and siblings. Neda shares memories of imaginative games with her brother and the continuation of familial traditions through her own parenting. She reflects on her aspirations and experiences of motherhood, including childbirth, postpartum depression, and body image. The interview also covers cultural practices surrounding childbirth in Iranian tradition, including the 40-day recovery period supported by extended family. Neda describes community support in Derby, particularly through the Becket Family Hub, and her evolving emotional and psychological journey as a new mother.
The interview was conducted in English with the aid of a translation app from Farsi, which results in long pauses of silence during the recording while Neda writes things down.
