Administrative History | The Amalgamated Society of Painters and Decorators (ASPD) was formed in 1886 from a number of smaller and geographical unions and organisations that had been operating since the mid-1860s. The ASPD merged with the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers (ASW) in 1970 to form the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers and Decorators. The following year the ASWD merged with the Amalgamated Union of Building Trade Workers (AUBTW) and the Association of Building Technicians to form the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians (UCATT). In 2017, UCATT was amalgamated into Unite the Union (commonly known as Unite).
The Chesterfield branch of the Amalgamated Society of Painters and Decorators was established by 1929 when the first surviving minute book begins. |
Custodial History | These records were donated to Derbyshire Record Office by the daughter of a former secretary of the union in June 2022. |
