Administrative History | Buxton’s Present from the Past is an “umbrella” group, which includes Buxton and District U3A Oral History Group, Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, Discover Buxton and the Buxton Spa Crescent and Thermal Spa Heritage Trust. All groups had an interest in recording memories from the past and first came together informally in 2016 to discuss their individual projects and ideas, which led, amongst other things, to the production of two shows for The Buxton Fringe Festival: “Let us entertain you” in 2017, followed in 2018 by “Well, well, I never knew that about Buxton’s Waters”. The object of these productions was to raise awareness of the recordings made by using extracts from them interwoven around a particular theme. The aim of all participants is to capture memories from the past, record them in the present and preserve them for the future, hence Present from the Past.
Buxton & District U3A Oral History Group Established in 2015 by Anne Rogerson, a History graduate who taught the subject for over 30 years, and has led several Oral History projects. Members of the group include those born in Buxton and nearby, as well as others to who moved to the area for work or in retirement. An average of twelve participants attend each meeting, held twice a month between September and July and usually involve hosting a speaker or facilitating a group discussion with members sharing their memories of a particular topic, which are then recorded. |
