Description
Deed of copartnership between 1. John Coape of London grocer and 2. John Stables of London grocer, who agreed, in consideration of the trust and confidence they have in each other and for the better managing and increase of their trades and estates, to be and continue copartners and joint dealers together in the trade of a Grocer of the City of London, for 7 years, if they live so long, the trade to be managed in a messuage on the South side of Fleet Street, parish of St Dunstan in the West, London;
each has provided half their first capital and principal stock of £800 in money, goods and wares;
there are detailed covenants concerning the conduct of the business, including provision for arbitration in disputes;
the partners are jointly possessed of £300 worth of household goods and "other things" set out in an inventory, but not included in the £800 stock, and to be valued in the annual accounts;
there are provisions made concerning the term of 21 years granted in the messuage mentioned above, by George Carter gentleman, to John Coape in a lease dated 16 August 1687 (lately assigned to Stables and Robert Rayner deceased) if Coape should die within 7 years or if the partnership should continue beyond 7 years.
