Administrative HistoryThe Christian Science movement began in the United States of America in the 19th century; the Church of Christ, Scientist was founded by Mary Baker Eddy in 1879. The movement arrived in Codnor in the early 20th century, one of its early adherents being Miss North, a teacher at Mill Lane Infants School. A group of Christian Science practitioners met at Miss North's house for some years, before moving to a purpose-built church on Glasshouse Hill in 1935. The church closed in 1986 and was later demolished to make way for the new building of The Firs Nursing Home.
