Description | Dennis Tunnicliffe, overhauling a walking crane in 9 shop. Dennis worked as an Electrician's mate for thirty years. Part of his work was to service the motors on top of the cranes. Most of the cranes were quite old and had open gearing. Most of the electric drive motors were actually made by railway workshops, and had bronze bearings which were lubricated by two oversized rings that dipped into the oil and rotated. |
