Title
Repairing No 1 roundshed roof.
Description
This work was carried out as a conservation project. The roof was found to be twisting. The solution was to install steel cable just above the interior columns right around the circumference of the 'shed' and tension it to pull it back and hold in the right position. There was an unfortunate incident at this time as the roofers had a gas cylinder on the roof to melt the pitch which was used to seal the covering. It got overheated and took off like a rocket. The roof caught fire, but through prompt action, little damage was done.
