Title
Middleton Top
Date
1967
Description
Water tanks outside the engine shed at Middleton Top. Note the attractive cast-iron frames with 'fan-like' ornamentation to the windows of the shed. The shed roof was lost in the winter gales of 1962/63. Water tank No.18 is an ex LNWR Webb tender with the central axle removed, whilst the one on the left is an old McConnell tender frame. Behind the tenders on the track at the end of the shed is the old ex LNW Ramsbottom DX 0-6-0 boiler that was in latter years used for raising steam after the last of the two Middleton Top boilers was condemned.
