Administrative History | Derby Opera Company, an amateur group, was established about 1890. From 1891 the company mounted annual productions, often of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. In 1950, the choice of production was 'The Lilac Domino', selected because it possessed 'melodies written for you, laughter through the three comedians, ballet beautiful yet sometimes grotesque, the sinewy syncopated Can Can and the singing of the Derby Opera Company'. |
