Administrative History
The London Midland and Scottish Railway and the London and North Eastern Railway, which became part of British Railways (later British Rail) on nationalisation of the railway system in 1948, provided track and buildings throughout Derbyshire. Many branch lines and stations were closed following rationalisation of the system in the 1960s.
Custodial History
The documents were given to Derbyshire Record Office on the closure of the British Rail Board Records Centre in October 2002.

These plans, with some architectural drawings, have been listed in alphabetical order of place. The numbers previously allocated by British Rail and its predecessors have been noted.
