This is a play on the Spanish word 'infante', meaning prince. After Spanish revolt in March 1808 Charles IV abdicated in favour of his son Ferdinand and the royal favourite Godoy was dismissed. Napoleon lured the King, Queen, Ferdinand and Godoy to Bayonne. Napoleon forced Ferdinand to restore rights to King - he was interned at Vallençay, and the others were pensioned off in France |
