Further Information
Fox found it difficult to translate his personal popularity into political success and did not hold office between the breakdown of the Fox-North coalition and the Westminster Election in 1784 and the 'Ministry of All Talents' in 1806. He had openly supported the revolutionaries in France, hence his revolutionary cockade in the drawing.
The drawing was produced between the French Revolution in 1789 and Pitt's death in 1806.
