"Sir Andrew / What is pourquoy? Do or not do? I would I had bestow'd that time on the tongues that I have in fencing, dancing and bear baiting. Act I Scene III"
James William Dodd (?1740-1796) was already acting by the age of 16, in 1765 he was engaged to work at Drury Lane. His pale, expressionless face meant he often played fops and other shallow characters.
He was famed for his playing of Sir Andrew Aguecheek, and in the drawing he is dressed almost exactly as portrayed in a painting by Francis Wheatley of the revival of 'Twelfth Night' at Drury Lane in 1771.
