King Lear : Mr Holman in the character of Edgar

Description
Portrait of Holman wearing ragged clothes and a large hat, all apparently covered in straw. With his left hand he holds his clothes around him, and in this right he holds a staff. Available on CD 157.

Joseph George Holman (1764-1817) began acting in amateur theatricals at the Soho Academy and made his debut as Romeo at Covent Garden in 1784. He was known for his energetic and naturalistic style, which contrasted greatly with that of the Kembles.
Holman first played Edgar at Covent Garden on 6 Mar 1786.
