Dudley West Digges [1720? - 1786] made his stage debut at the Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin in 1749.
He first played Wolsey at the Canongate Theatre in Edinburgh in 1756. He played the part six times in the 1777-8 season at Covent Garden, and again at the Haymarket on 24/8/1779 in a benefit for himself.
A review in 1777 described him as a playing:
"his famous Wolsey in Henry VIII in his rather agreeably pompous manner". |
