DescriptionSir Launcelot Greaves, dressed in black armour stands in the doorway, on the left, shield in one hand and spear in the other. At his feet lies a large man, his companion Timothy Crabshaw. Captain Crowe, an older man in the blue coat of a naval officer, brandishes his sword at the knight. On the right the ostler points a flintlock at the knight and Mr Fillet, a surgeon and man-midwife dressed in a brown suit, holds a red-hot poker drawn from the fire. Behind them the head of Mr Ferret, a party-writer, can be seen, looking round the pantry door. There is a fire in the grate and a punch bowl and cups on the table in front of the fire. A dog stands at Mr Fillet's feet, baring his teeth at the knight.

Further InformationThe room is described in the first chapter:
" The kitchen, in which they assembled, was the only room for entertainment in the house, paved with red bricks, remarkably clean, furnished with three or four Windsor chairs, adorned with shining plates of pewter, and copper saucepans, nicely scoured, that even dazzled the eyes of the' beholder; while a cheerful fire of sea-coal blazed in the chimney."

The knight makes his entry in chapter two:
"It was the figure of a man armed cap-a-pee, bearing on his shoulders a bundle dropping with water, which afterwards appeared to be the body of a man that seemed to have been drowned, and fished up from the bottom of the neighbouring river. Having deposited his burden carefully on the floor, he addressed himself to the company. "
