Bundle of letters from Mary [Mary Eardley Eardley, later Cockrem] to her mother, recording in detail a trip to Egypt and Palestine

Description
Letters are in diary format, sent approximately twice-weekly, from on-board ship (first letter dated 23 Jan 1904), Alexandria (first letter dated 4 Feb), Cairo (19 Feb), Assiout in Upper Egypt (1 Apr), Jerusalem (13 Apr), Port Said (23 Apr) and back to Alexandria (26 Apr); three further letters sent from Liverpool and on-board ship, 19 and 20 May 1904, at the start of another foreign trip by Mary following her return from Egypt and a short visit home; letters refer to tourist sites, the culture of the country, visits to various mission stations, and to the ex-patriate families and missionaries with whom Mary stayed.
Bundle also includes letter from Dr Sue Powell of the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Salford returning the letters to Miss Cockrem [Mary's daughter] with thanks, 23 Jun 1989
