Administrative History
Derbyshire Stone Ltd. were the owners of Ashwood Dale Quarry, Fairfield, which they held on lease from the Chatsworth Estate Company. In 1947 they wished to extend the quarry in a north and northwesterly direction. In May of that year they forwarded an application to Buxton Corp. The corporation had several objections. The main disagreement was over the proposed removal of a rocky face overlooking the A6. The arguments were heard in front of the regional controller of the Minstry of Town & Country Planning on 19 February 1948.
