Description
Busby to Taylor. Sends copy (on reverse) of letter of the same date from Busby to Messrs Cobb and Southey (Solicitors, Westminster and Lincolns Inn Fields) requesting that they draft a petition, with the possibility that it might be signed at a meeting of influential Liberal party members in Bakewell, scheduled for Thursday [17th December]. Grounds cited to include bribery, treating by agents (possibly also by the candidate himself), threats, promises, acceptance of unqualified votes for Arkwright and rejection of good votes for [William] Jackson (the defeated Liberal candidate and MP for the consituency from 1865-1868), 12 Dec
